Hatfield Farm is just down the road from our studio in Hammonds Plains, yet it feels a world away from the city. It has a nostalgic, slightly whimsical charm - a touch of yesterday's elegance that comes through in every photo.

Brian Hatfield, a genuine cowboy, his wife Cherie and their team take the time to get to know each couple, so the day feels like yours rather than a template. Ceremonies happen at a scenic lakeside gazebo, or inside next to a stone fireplace if the weather does not cooperate. Dinner is in the 5,000 square foot rustic lodge, which is romantically lit and seats up to 200 guests, and when the night winds down your guests can retire to the cabins and bunkhouses on site.

And then there is the horse-drawn carriage. Arriving at your ceremony in one, or leaving in one as newlyweds, makes for some of the most memorable images of the day. Hatfield Farm suits couples who want a warm, personal, rustic celebration close to Halifax with nobody worrying about the drive home.

The rain plan at Hatfield Farm

The lakeside gazebo is the main ceremony site, with an indoor option beside the stone fireplace as the backup. For photos, the stable area is the real rain plan. It is huge, very rustic and an exceptional space to shoot in, so a rainy forecast is not the end of the world here.

The carriage

A horse-drawn carriage arrival or exit is the signature Hatfield Farm moment. Let us know if you are planning one so we can be in position for the arrival and for the newlyweds' exit from the lakeside ceremony.

The lodge at dusk

The main lodge looks its best at dusk with the lights on inside. A short sneak-out from the reception at that time gives us a portrait in front of the lodge that captures the whole feel of the place.

Getting home

Couples often arrange a shuttle to a local hotel for their guests, and there are bunkhouses and cabins on site for anyone who wants to stay the night. There is also lots of free parking.
