A small boy in a blue sweater looking out through a green spiral climber at a Halifax playground. The playground was his idea, not ours, and that is often the best way to photograph a toddler: go where they want to be and let the equipment become the frame. We used the spiral to surround his face and shot with a long lens so the rest of the park dropped out of focus. For families with very young children, a location the kids already love beats any formal backdrop. Our family sessions run across Halifax and Bedford, on our own two acres in Hammonds Plains, or in the studio, and with two photographers there is always someone free to play. Dogs are welcome, and there is no pressure to make anyone sit still.
