Chef Andrew Farrell of Kitchen Door Catering in Dartmouth, tossing a handful of sliced carrots at the camera in his own kitchen, cleaver in hand. This is an environmental headshot - photographed where the person actually works, with the tools of the job in the frame - and for a chef there is no better setting than the line. We lit the kitchen with portable strobes so the carrots froze in mid-air and the stainless steel behind him stayed clean, then simply asked Andrew to be himself. Kitchen Door has photographed with us for team headshots as well as this kind of personality portrait, and the same approach works for any business that wants pictures with more life than a white background.
