What do you love about weddings?
It was my childhood dream to be a Fairy Godmother when I grew up. Becoming a Wedding Coordinator was the closest I could get, and I couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful venue to be working at than the Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites.
I love the excitement of weddings! Bringing clients through our newly-renovated ballrooms, watching their faces light up when they talk about how they can envision their big day at our hotel, being there for them every step of the way through the planning process. Then seeing it all come together on the wedding day, as they’re surrounded by their loved ones, over the moon with joy, knowing that our team and beautiful venue helped make it happen. It’s just magical.
Is there anything else that you’d like to share that wedding couples might want to know?
Our rich history of hosting elegant events for over 90 years, unmatched location on the Public Gardens and freshly remodeled surroundings have made us a sought-after wedding venue. I recently met a couple who were telling me about when they came to a wedding at the hotel over 70 years ago! It’s amazing how many local people have stories to share about the Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites.
Amy de Gannes (formerly Wilkinson, she just got married in January 2019!) has been working in the Events industry for the past 7 years and has a background specializing in food & beverage and wedding planning. She studied Event Management at NBCC in St. Andrews and became a certified Wedding Coordinator at the Wedding Planners Institute of Canada in Toronto, before moving back to Halifax where she graduated from the Tourism Management program at NSCC in 2017.
